Jennifer Jones from TRACKING DOWN THE FAMILY has initiated a 50-Day Family History Blogging Challenge. This is a big writing commitment but I have decided to participate. My topic will be “Fragments of Family History”. I will write short posts of newspaper items or single stories connected to my family history. This may expand over the 50 days.
A STEAMER BETWEEN PARRAMATTA AND SYDNEY
My Great-grandfather, Horace Herbert Flicker, was known by his step-father’s surname of Walshaw. These articles describe another of his many business ventures; a steamer between Parramatta and Sydney, N.S.W. He only advertises between February and July 1891. He may have built up enough customers to have no need to advertise his service or he may have tried something else.

We are glad to notice that at last there is likely to be some competition on the Parramatta River in the steamer traffic Mr. Horace Walshaw is putting on a fast steamer and intends cutting down freights to a reasonable limit. He also intends to go into the passenger-carrying business on the river which has been sadly neglected, and will run cheap excursions. Wo hope to hear of the enterprise of Mr. Walshaw, who is a Parramatta native, being rewarded by liberal patronage.

Sounds like your great grandfather was very resourceful Diane.
I need to do a timeline for him. He had at least 6 different jobs.
