50-Day Family History Blogging Challenge - Day 22
Fragments of Family History – The Family of William Stephens & Mary Newman Buckman
Jennifer Jones from TRACKING DOWN THE FAMILY has initiated a 50-Day Family History Blogging Challenge. This is a big writing commitment, but I have decided to participate. I have decided my topic will be “Fragments of Family History”. I will write short posts of newspaper items or single stories connected to my family history. This may expand over the 50 days.
The Children of William Stephens & Mary Newman Buckman, my 3x Great Grandparents
It is only on Mary Newman (nee Buckman) Stephens’ death certificate in 1898 that we learn that she had 8 children.1 Only two were mentioned by my maternal Grandmother when she was telling us the family history. I have found that these two were the only children who survived. They all deserve to be remembered.
They are listed as:
Mary Susan Stephens
Mary Emma Stephens
Mary Theresa Stephens
John Xavier Stephens
George Spencer Stephens
Thomas Howard Stephens
Matilda Edith Stephens
Mary Jane Stephens
The informant on the death certificate was Mary’s son-in-law, Theophilus Drinkwater. His wife Mary Emma having died four years earlier. It is lovely to think that Mary never forgot all her children and made sure that others knew them as well.
