Fragments of Family History – Thomas Rose – Land and Livestock Agent
Jennifer Jones from TRACKING DOWN THE FAMILY has initiated a 50-Day Family History Blogging Challenge. This is a big writing commitment, but I have decided to participate. I have decided my topic will be “Fragments of Family History”. I will write short posts of newspaper items or single stories connected to my family history. This may expand over the 50 days.
Thomas Rose – Land and Livestock Agent
My 3x Great grandfather, Thomas Rose, became an agent for land and livestock sales. He was the contact for further particulars for numerous advertisements.

To be Sold by Private Contract, a substantial and commodious neat Dwelling House, situate No. 5, Chapel Row, with a good Garden in cultivation, together with a well constantly supplied with good water.—Six months credit will be given for half the purchase money on good security.—For further particulars application to be made to Mr. 'Thomas Rose, Upper Chapel Row, Sydney.1

TO be Sold by Private Contract, the House and Premises belonging to Mr. William Fleming, situate the Corner of Phillip street, near Hyde Park. For Beauty of Situation it needs no comment. There is a good Garden belonging to the House, and a Well constantly supplied with pure Water. If not Sold by Private Contract, they will be Sold by Public Auction, by Mr. Bevan, on Monday, the 21st Instant.—For Particulars apply at the House; or of Mr. Thomas Rose, Castlreagh-street.2

The John Pye of Baulkham Hills in this advertisement became Thomas Rose’s father-in-law in 1829 when Thomas married John’s daughter Sarah Pye.
