50-Day Family History Blogging Challenge - Day 23
Fragments of Family History – The Family of William Stephens & Mary Newman Buckman - Mary Susan Stephens
Jennifer Jones from TRACKING DOWN THE FAMILY has initiated a 50-Day Family History Blogging Challenge. This is a big writing commitment, but I have decided to participate. I have decided my topic will be “Fragments of Family History”. I will write short posts of newspaper items or single stories connected to my family history. This may expand over the 50 days.
Mary Susan Stephens
Mary Susan Stephens was the first child of William Stephens and Mary Newman Buckman. Mary Susan is the only child that I am unsure of her birth year. She was born pre-1836. I presume that as all the other children listed on their mother’s death certificate were in birth order that Mary Susan was the eldest. If I look at English naming patterns, Mary Susan should be named after her maternal grandmother, which was Mary, and she is. Susan is a shortened version of Susanna which is her mother’s maternal grandmother’s name.
Mary Newman Buckman, better known as Mary Ann, was born and raised in Worcester, Worcestershire, England. William Stephens was born in Aymestrey, Herefordshire, England. Later children were born in West Bromwich, Staffordshire, then after 1840 in Sydney, Australia.
There is a death for a Mary Susan Stephens who died aged 2 in 1832 at Ledbury, Herefordshire, however no parents are listed.1 The search continues.
